A man has been charged after last night's assault in a Manurewa nightclub

A 28-year-old man has been charged with assault following the death of a man at a south Auckland nightclub overnight.

The 30-year-old victim died outside Club 220 on Great South Road in Manurewa after an incident inside the club about 4am on Saturday.

Police said the man arrested on Saturday will appear in Manukau District Court on Monday.

Staff and patrons at the club have been helping police, who launched a homicide inquiry after the man's death.

The victim has yet to be named.
