Man critical after apparent hit-and-run

A man is in a critical condition in Christchurch Hospital after being found with serious head injuries in a driveway.

Police are treating the incident as an apparent hit-and-run after a walker came across the man on Yaldhurst Road near Riccarton racecourse around 6:30am on Wednesday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Tony Hill says it is too early to confirm how the man was injured but he may have been the victim of a hit-and-run.

The man is described as being in his mid-40s, with short red hair, a goatee beard and tattoos.
