A 20-year-old man charged with assaulting a woman while she was holding a baby on Christmas Day has been refused bail.

Adam Ngahuru pleaded not guilty in Christchurch District Court today.

But Judge Brian Callaghan says he would stick by his December 30 ruling, and refuse bail on charges of injuring the woman with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Ngahuru also faces charged of assaulting a one-year-old and intentionally damaging a car.
