Zoophilia comes from the Greek words for "animal" and "friendship" or "love".

Animal love.

Now an American man has written a book about it - a first-hand account.

We all love dolphins, from Flipper to Opo – they are a friendly face to the human race.

But Malcolm Brenner, had a friendlier relationship than most.

In 1970, the photographer embarked on a 9 month sexual relationship with Ruby, a captive female dolphin.

He has now written a book about the experience called Wet Goddess.

Mr Brenner spoke to Nightline from his Florida home. Below is the transcript of our conversation.

DF: Thanks for your time. How did this whole thing start?

MB: She began raking her teeth lightly against my arms and legs which was indescribably erotic. Some might find it frightening, I found it erotic.

DF: Now in your book, you talk about how that led on to you two having sex. A lot of people would say that's wrong, what's right in your mind about what you did?

MB: What was right with it is that the dolphin initiated the whole sexual thing. As I mentioned, she was in isolation - she'd be using me to satisfy her sexual needs.

The relationship lasted nine months. When Mr Brenner went to college - Ruby passed away - possibly due to a broken heart.

“I'd warn anyone who's in a relationship with a dolphin. You have to plan an exit strategy,” says Mr Brenner.

Mr Brenner believes around 15 percent of the world’s population has had sexual contact with an animal.

“If you believe the statistics, something like one in every six men and one in seven women has had sexual contact with an animal,” he says.

“How many of those involve dolphins I do not know.”

Mr Brenner’s book, Wet Goddess, is currently rated 5 stars out of 5 on Amazon.com.

I am so absolutely grossed out. Where are u nuts living . ? I will be sure not to move my family anywhere near u. There is a website for pedidiles who move near my neighbor now I'm going to ask the town court to expand this to include zoo-iphiles. The name of the book almost made me throw up a little in my mouth. I have heard of slippery when wet being sexy but this tops the cake. Thank god the lord lives mammals and took this one home. Horrid horrid. Horrid. Good night and i will now have scary nightmares. Thank you but alls for them. Gross.

Honestly dolphins are very smart and because of the way the dolphin was reacting and started everything i dont think its wrong, i mean this is a 400 pound aquatic mammal if she didnt like what was happening she could have very easily gotten away from the man or even killed him

LOl is all I can say, 1) Show me some proof man was created! ( Let them rule the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the domestic animals all over the earth)Genesis 1:26 2) He didn't abuse or rape the dolphin. 3) If your trying to suggest that it is abuse because an animal cannot give consent, are we then to go around stopping animals from mating? Because they have not told us they were going to? Come on where is your logic. (http://www.onlinedebate.net/forums/showthread.php/14297-Animals-*can*-consent-to-sex) 4) Some may think its perverted or weird, OK your aloud to have that opinion but to say they need "psychiatric attention" please show me someone who doesn't!! Others may find scat, fisting, bdsm, homosexulity or crossdressing offensive. I do. Everyone in the world does something that will offend someone else. Between consenting individuals... well mind your own business. I do. 5) Do you eat meat? Do you believe the animals want or are consenting slaughtered for food? 6) Do you think the charge he would receive in NZ for having sex with an animal would be fair considering killing 23 seals with a steel poll is only worth 8 months home D? (http://www.stuff.co.nz/the-press/news/6061035/Seal-killers-jail-sentence-cut) 7) There IS a difference between a Zoophile like Mr Brenner and a Beastialist like this dude:(http://www.savethehumans.com/images/silly_rabbit.jpg) And last: Is it normal to have to hide behind a cloak of normallity and point the finger at other people to take the heat off yourselfs? Read the wiki on it make an informed decision at least! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoophilia)

Reading these comments is rather disturbing. Either most of you are 'trolling' or you all need some sought of psychiatric attention.

See, another reason there are not enough men to go around, they are gay, toxic, or having relationships with dolphins..

You can read from his tone:
"... the dolphin initiated the whole sexual thing…";
"she’d be using me to satisfy her sexual needs";

This freak claimed this is "love", but there’s no "love" in those words...
