A disgruntled former Christchurch resident has appeared in court charged with threatening to kill Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee.

Prosecutors allege Stuart Meek sent a series of threatening emails and phone calls to Mr Brownlee's office - and to Earthquake Commission officials.

Meek now lives in Waikanae north of Wellington, and appeared in the Porirua District Court this morning.

He's been bailed until August 14 and police have seized his computer.
