A 20-year-old tramper has been hospitalised after being attacked by a swarm of bees then falling down a 30m bluff near Tauranga.

The man failed to return from a short bush walk near Pyes Pa, 16km south of Tauranga, last night.

Search and rescuers found the man this morning, injured from his fall and stings, Sergeant Craig Madden from Tauranga police said.

The man was flown to Tauranga Hospital by the Trust Power Tect Rescue Helicopter with a broken finger, a dislocated shoulder and head injuries, Mr Madden said.
