A 37-year-old man is in hospital with serious head injuries following a gang-related attack in Masterton.

Police said the Masterton man was assaulted and left unconscious on a Hessey St driveway about 5:50pm on Saturday.

Police said the attack was gang-related.

He was airlifted to Wellington Hospital where he remained in a serious condition in the Intensive Care Unit on Monday evening.

No arrests have been made and police are seeking information from witnesses.

In what police are calling a retaliation attack, a molotov cocktail was thrown through the window of a house on the same street about 3:20pm on Sunday.
