A man has pleaded not guilty in the Christchurch District Court today to shooting a dog several times in the head – then leaving it for dead.

Police laid charges following a public appeal last month.

24-year-old Adam Milne is charged with reckless ill-treatment of the bull terrier cross, which was found tied to a post on the banks of the Waimakariri River.

Despite being shot several times, the dog was still alive but later had to be euthanized due to the extent of its injuries.
