A man will appear in court today, facing charges following the fatal shooting of his partner in Warkworth yesterday.

Police would not say what charges the man would face when he appeared in the North Shore District Court today, saying it was too early in the inquiry, Radio New Zealand reported.

The woman, aged about 20, was already dead when she arrived at a medical centre about 2pm yesterday, Inspector Keith Brady said.

She was brought to the centre by a man, also in his early 20s, with whom she had been in a relationship, Mr Brady said.

Further police investigations found a firearm at the woman's Percy Street home.

Eight detectives and 10 general duties officers were working at two crime scenes in Warkworth - the medical centre, in Neville Street, and the Percy Street house.

The woman's name will not be released until next-of-kin have been notified.
