A man has appeared in Manukau District Court this morning after a police pursuit through South Auckland on Friday.

Matthew Neil Speck, 36, faces charges of failing to stop, reckless driving, receiving a stolen vehicle and car theft. He had 18 outstanding warrants for arrest against him.

He has been remanded in custody and will appear for a bail hearing on Friday.

Speck was involved in a chase around 10:30 Friday morning, when he sped off after being pulled over by an officer in Pokeno, 50km south of Auckland.

The car had earlier been spotted in Waikato's Te Kauwhata and identified as stolen.

Officers chased the car along the Southern Motorway before it turned off and drove through Manurewa with police in pursuit.

The car then allegedly rammed a stationary police vehicle which was blocking the road before hitting a nearby car, injuring a woman driver's shoulder.

A Manukau Counties Police spokeswoman wouldn't reveal what speeds the chase had got up to as the incident was being investigated by the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

A 32-year-old female passenger was also due to appear in court today.
