Woodville is feeling forgotten.

It's in the Manawatu region, but managed by the Tararua District Council. It's in the Wairarapa electorate but has closest ties to the southern Hawke’s Bay.

So on the boundary of everything, it relies on traffic - people stopping for a loo stop, a pie and a browse in the shops.

The slip in the Manawatu Gorge has changed all that. The road won't be reopened until mid-winter.

Woodville businesses are struggling but as Whena Owen found out, the townspeople are coming up with their own ways of getting through.

Woodville is forgotten. The current situation is the very reason why no one with any brains would buy there .Until there is a bye pass going around the Gorge through good solid earth , with a good solid base of single and tar .Woodville is not a place for people who have to commute or need to be some where regularly .Like the hospital .

Very interesting comments about Woodville and thank you for taking the time to notice our wonderful town...It must be so very hard for our business owners to cope and I acknowledge that... However we are not a divided community as was suggested! When Mother Nature comes to call we have no choice but to make the best of a bad situation and just get on with coping the best we can. I commute daily to PN for work as do many others and yes its a burden but not a lot we can do to change that. Everyone locally pays the price in these instances but we have two choices.. One is to make the most of what we have and the other is to be negative.Well done to Yummy Mummys for positive thinking!
