The Maori Party is to decide whether they will force MP Hone Harawira to become an Independent or not

The Maori Party will decide in the next two weeks whether to expel Hone Harawira from caucus, its leaders said today.

Pita Sharples and Tariana Turia told a press conference that in some ways the Te Tai Tokerau MP was already acting like an
independent.

Mr Harawira was asked yesterday to consider leaving the party, which is reeling from the impact of his offensive comments about whites.

He rejected that, and the co-leaders said today they didn't think he was going to change his mind or the way he behaved.

Asked whether he would be forced to leave, they said they were "still looking at the matter" and a series of leadership meetings would be held over the next two weeks.
