Destiny Church’s co-leader has filed proceedings in the High Court at Wellington today after being dropped from Maori Women’s Welfare League ballot papers.

Hannah Tamaki says she was standing in the election for a new president before being dropped from the papers.

The case was tentatively set down for July 20.

The church has established branches of the league since Tamaki joined five years ago.

But yesterday the league said it was suspending its link with those branches and church members pending an inquiry.

For goodness sakes this is a load of rubbish how could there be a takeover - There are 2900 members and only 300 existing members may have affiliations to the church. How can that be a take over. Have you read their creed let alone the preamble about being non-sectarian and non political. It says the league not the individual. Another comment I'd like to make the partner of the complainer Prue Kapua is the president of Waiatarau - Louisa Wall should she be excluded too. Obvious the Leagues Executive seems to make up their own rules rather than follow the constitution they have. I know you probably won't print this either.

I think this is GREAT!!! Take the MWWL to court. It's a maori womens organisation discriminating against not only Hannah Tamaki, but other members of the league as well!!! We live in a democratic society, so let the people vote...What are the League scared of???

Hannah Tamaki should confine her do-good-to-extract-money pantomime to Destiny church. Intelligent Maori women do not need her input or leadership style.

Is's quite obvious that the Destiny Church is out to take over the League. If it gains control Destiny would be in strong position to access Government funding by being sub-contracted by the League to deliver social services who all the bias that goes with the church philosophy.

You would think this woman could get the message that she is just not wanted. We seem to live in an age no matter how unwelcome you are you can force your presence on others. Is this a characteristic of a tolerant society or one that is being manipulated by those who do not hesitate to exploit this tolerance?
