Gandalf

Kiwi Olympic great Mark Todd has suffered a blow this Christmas.

He has had to have Gandalf - the horse he rode at the Olympics last year and hoped to ride again at the 2012 games in London - put down in England.

Gandalf had suffered a neurological disorder and had recently experienced seizures and lost the sight in his right eye.

Todd said it was a tough decision to put Gandalf down, but he'd become a danger to both himself and his handlers.

He admits it will now be a challenge to get one of his younger horses up to Olympic standard.
