Willie Mason has signed a one year contract with the North Queensland Cowboys.
The Sydney Morning Herald reports that the former Kangaroo and unwanted Sydney Rooster is expected to receive A$60,000 for the season, substantially less than the A$400,000 a season he was earning at the Roosters.
Mason is understood to have chosen the Cowboys over the Newcastle Knights because he believes they have more chance of winning an NRL grand final.
The Cowboys have Mason’s former teammates Johnathan Thurston, Willie Tonga and Ben Harris in its ranks, another factor in Mason chosing the club.
The Cowboys first game of the season is against the Brisbane Broncos.
