A firefighter was injured in a large blaze at Lahood Window Furnishings in the Auckland suburb of Mt Eden this morning.
The male firefighter was taken to Auckland Hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.
A New Zealand Fire Service spokesperson says the man is in a stable condition and is recovering, but will be kept overnight for treatment and observation
The large fire broke out late this morning, closing roads and forcing nearby businesses to evacuate. At least 15 appliances and 80 firemen are at the scene.
Jerillyn Rogalski works in a nearby shop and says thick smoke quickly blacked out the factory.
“There was just really, really thick smoke this way; so much that you couldn’t even really see Mt Eden behind it.”
Smoke continues to billow out of the two-storey building and the surrounding roads are covered in thick smoke.
