Matt Damon will follow Clint Eastwood’s advice not to “f**k things up” by thinking too much when he directs his first movie.

The actor is making his debut behind the lens in a film he’s written with The Office star John Krasinski. It doesn’t have a name at the moment but Matt can’t wait to helm the project.

He knows many people will be expecting him to fail so has decided to take some advice from another famous actor-turned-director.

“Clint says all the time, 'Let's not f**k this up too much by thinking about it,'” he said. “That's his approach, and some people love it and some people hate it, but he doesn't do too much hand-wringing about it. I'd love to do what Clint does.”

That’s not to say Matt is totally relaxed about the project. He knows directing a movie will be hard going because every minute detail will be down to him.

The 41-year-old star feels ready for the challenge though, revealing acting doesn’t have the allure it once did for him nowadays.

“There are just too many decisions over the course of too long a time, and if you're not a truly great director, you just can't hide,” he told GQ.

“When I first started getting work, I felt like acting was the most important thing. But the more you do it, the more you realise that in the end, the director has all the power.”
