The Southland District Mayor has come out strongly against the proposed Milford tunnel linking Mt Aspiring and Fiordland national parks.
Submissions closed yesterday for the 11.3km, $150 million project. Frana Cardno says it makes no sense.
"I'm extremely nervous by letting this type of project go ahead, what that might do to our World Heritage status," she says.
Ms Cardno says there is very little support within the community for the project.
