Former McDonald's worker, Chantelle Coup

Chantelle Coup, like many young people, got a part time job at McDonald's. However unlike most, she also joined a union - the increasingly successful Unite Union.

That was not well received at the Kaiapoi McDonald's where she worked - anti-union notices were put up and she was constructively dismissed.

Following a hearing, her employer was ordered to pay her $15,000 by the Employment Relations Authority.

Chantelle's, who is now in Brisbane, spoke to Campbell Live about the whole idea which happened when she and other workers dared to join the union.

Ok so an employer has been punished for treating employees who belong to a union differently to those who don't, funny i cannot find any recent news items concerning the sacking of an employee from the EPMU for their political belief, or does this not warrant a news worthy story, is it a case of the unions "do as we say , not as we do" scenario????? watch this space it could get interesting, and expensive

What the hell were these employers thinking - not much apparently. Their lack of business savvy, and an obvious sense of self-importance has been duly punished. Well done Chantelle Coup.
