Berlin’s GlassBlowSing quintet are not the first artists to search for inspiration in the bottom of a bottle, but, uniquely, the more they drink the better they sound.
Frank, Fritze, Endie, Peter and Moehre only ever hit the bottle so that later they can, well, hit the bottle, or stroke it, or blow into it.
“As one can see our instruments are different, we only use bottles to blow on, beat on and make all possible sounds on,” says Peter.
The group found success busking on the streets of Berlin but they then bottled the formula and took it to the stage.
“What do they want here? What is this supposed to be? Go drink somewhere else! And then we get the bottles out, start the first song and then what happens is astonishment, pleasure and then enthusiasm,” says Fritze.
Adapting the classics and the contemporary has become a full-time job for the five, so while many musicians are never content, this quintet is only ever happy when their glass is half empty.
