Mel B is an "eight out of ten" when it comes to health.

The former Spice Girls singer takes better care of herself since giving birth to daughters Phoenix, 10 and Angel, two.

The 34-year-old star said: "The older you get, and the more kids you have, the more you want to take care of yourself. I want to set a good example for them. On a health scale of one to 10, I'm an eight.

"I've smoked on and off for years, but it's a really bad thing and I wouldn't promote it. I've never been a heavy smoker or heavy drinker - I'm more on the healthy, fun side than the 'let me destroy my body' side."

Mel - who is married to film producer Stephen Belafonte - is also relaxed when it comes to her diet and fitness regime.

She explained: "I don't believe in diets - I believe in making healthy eating part of your everyday lifestyle. Plus, I do have a husband who cooks the most delicious food. If you're going to eat healthily, make it taste right.

"I only work out every other day for one hour, but I like to mix it up, so it could be an hour-long hike, a spin class, or the gym doing cardio and weights.

"I love it because I can see the results!"
