Mel Gibson on Tiger Woods scandal: 'Who cares?'

Hollywood actor Mel Gibson is baffled by the furore surrounding Tiger Woods' private life - insisting there are more important issues than celebrity gossip.

The golf star's relationship with his wife Elin Nordegren came under public scrutiny in November after a string of alleged mistresses came forward with stories of secret trysts with the sportsman.

Gibson admits he can empathise with Woods after his own personal life was put under the spotlight last year following his split from his wife of 28 years, Robyn, and the birth of his eighth child with new girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva.

And the Hollywood actor can't understand why such relatively minor issues take precedence on the news agenda over the ongoing war in Afghanistan.

He says, "I feel sorry for Tiger Woods. Why are we talking about this when we are sending 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan? You've got this history-changing event going on and we're talking about Tiger's private life and golf injuries. He's being used as a diversion and it just drives me crazy. You come out savaged. I just think, 'Who cares?'"

if you don't care, why are you reading it? I don't know why a reporter would ask one celeb about another. But I have to say, Mel is right, Tiger is just a diversion from all the politics. Same thing happened when Bill Clinton almost got in trouble for selling Weapon secrets to China or some big, important story, but then someone found out about Monica, and that was the end of the big story, all we heard about was Monica for the next 6 months.

everybody makes mistakes.ease off, a little. I think many persons ( my self included) enjoy the diversion of watching these things, cause, well, its nice to know we are not the only ones to mess up. we love our heros, and then love to tear them down, cause they are like us. But when you make your living by being in the public spotlight, don't complain when that same light shows a few... well, imperfections...

Just trying to remind you that if you forgive Tiger, you might forgive Mel, too......Guess when you have money, you can do, say, and whatever else you want to do and expect everyone to say, awwww it's allright. That's why I dont respect any of those overly paid idiots. They sould come to earth and realize that they are not Gods of anything.

How interesting: A guy who publically fools around with woman, (other then his wife) AND calls (still) himself a 'conservative' Catholic, running verbal interference for another guy who...publically fools around with woman, (other then his wife...)!
Who are all these people to tell others what kind of marrieges they can have, or what IS/ISN'T sinful?

Mel Gibson is the greatest! "The Passion of the Christ" is one of the finest films ever made. Its box office success is proof of how many fans Mel has. Right on, Mel!!!

I actually feel dirty shame for being a fan of Gibson all those years. I need to go shower now.
