A small flotilla of boats has headed out from Nuku'alofa this morning bound for the site where the Tongan ferry Princess Ashika sank.

Over 70 people died when the ferry sank.

The boats are carrying members of Tonga's royal family, the Prime Minister and other government officials, as well as relatives of victims.

A memorial service at the site of the sinking is scheduled for midday today.

The Tongan government is yet to make a decision on whether it will try to raise the millions of dollars needed to salvage the Princess Ashika so the bodies of the missing can be recovered.
