Three Auckland men who were caught poaching paua on the Coromandel peninsula have been ordered to pay hefty fines.

Ok Bong Moon, his teenager son Woong Je Moon, and another man are more than $2500 out of pocket after appearing in the North Shore District Court.

A Fishery officer saw the trio at the south end of Pauanui Beach in April this year, trying to hide bags of paua in the water as he approached.

They were found to have more than 100 paua when they were permitted only 10, and a large number were under the minimum size.

Maybe it is time to require that a license be required for taking and quantity of paua and other high value seafood. Failure to produce a license should result in the seizure of boat, car, any equipment and the first born daughter of the offender. No exceptions at all plus a hefty fine. And as far as poaching vs breadcrumbs, it is the offender who should be battered and then deep fried.

Poaching is bad. Everyone knows you should coat them in breadcrumbs and fry them. Silly Aucklanders.

If they are not New Zealand Citizens they should be sent packing, we should have zero tolerance for this sort of activity.
$2500.00 is not much of a deterent. The thought of being kicked out would be though. They knew they were doing wrong.
