I was going to compile a great big list of my favourite YouTube clips of 2010, but it all got a bit much. There are too many.
I've done countless "This Week On The Internet" items this year, each one containing about 10 clips a time. They add up.
Plus there are already amazing mashups/summaries going around like this:
I'm not going to try and top that.
But it's Christmas time, and I thought I'd share two videos that sort of sum it all up for me.
To be quite upfront, I don't really do the whole Christmas back-story. It's up there with faeries for me. Virgin births and magical stars and miracles are all great stories, that have lasted for thousands of years, but that's all they are to me: stories.
It's all summed up in this YouTube video - a preacher at a big American church doing what preachers tend to do - and the audience is totally into it:
That doesn't mean I'm anti-Christmas. I love it. It's a lovely time to catch up with family and friends and think back at the lovely year, and look forward to the upcoming year you'll spend with more lovely people (for me, that's David Hasselhoff in January).
And wonderful, creative things come out of the Christmas story that I really admire.
This year's comes from Auckland's St Pauls Church. They have an amazing bunch of creatives there that have shot a really lovely video of kids telling the Christmas story. This sort of thing usually makes my skin crawl with the cheesiness of it all, but gosh, these guys have done well. It’s inspiring. Enjoy.
