The BBC is fed-up with inaccurate forecasting by its current provider – which could open up the door for New Zealand’s MetService.
According to media reports, the British Met Office's contract with the network runs out in April and the BBC has started talks with MetService's commercial arm, Metra, as a possible alternative.
A spokesman for State Owned Enterprises Minister Simon Power says he is aware the MetService was involved in a bid to provide services to the BBC.
It comes after the Met Office predicted a "barbecue summer" last July which turned into a washout and failed to predict last week's heavy snowfall in south-east England.
