Michael Kors chose a completely new colour palette for his Spring/Summer 10 collection.

The US designer showed his latest line at New York Fashion Week yesterday, and amazed onlookers by opting for pastel fabrics.

He said: "I've never done pastels before - I always felt they were a bit too saccharine. But they seem right for spring. That's what it's all about."

The line featured sharp angles and dresses with panels cut away, all sewn in pale blues, lilacs and soft green shades.

Also shown were loose-fitting jumpers, Grecian dresses with cowl necks, shift and cocktail dresses.

Sitting front row was actor Michael Douglas, who revealed he loves attending fashion shows.
He said: "Michael is a friend and I like to go to at least one show a season, to keep in touch and catch a bit of theatre."

Oscar De La Renta's collection was peppered with the intricate beadwork which is his signature.

A teal coat with green embroidery was teamed with a white dress, while a strapless gown featured bronze and red sequins.

Also sent down the runway were safari jackets with skinny trousers, a tweed jacket and traditional evening wear including fuschia, red and black lace gowns.

Phillip Lim previewed shorts suits, and pants with high, rolled waistbands teamed with crop tops and acres of toned tummy.

Camel was also featured, with a lambskin tank top and leather shift dress both fashioned from the colour.

Kimora Lee Simmons' Baby Phat focused more on summer than spring, with the show opened by a model in a coral bikini.

Gold and animal-skin two-pieces also made their way down the catwalk, and while menswear was also featured most of the models were shirtless.
