Michelle Obama relies on headbands to keep her hair under control.

The US First Lady - who is regularly voted one of the world's most stylish women - often slicks back her tresses as they can be difficult to tame.

She said: "I use headbands. I try not to do anything additional, because with black folks and perms, that's where your hair's on your pillow. So I tend to just slick it back."

Michelle - who has daughters Malia, 11, and eight-year-old Natasha with US President Barack Obama - also revealed she has given up her early morning workouts.

She told US Glamour magazine: "I don't do the 4:30 anymore. I've been going to a trainer because I'm not disciplined enough to work out on my own. A lot of free weights and cardio, about two hours."

Michelle recently revealed she loves junk food and prefers to work out rather than forbid herself from eating her favourite calorific treats.

She said: "I try to have no absolute nos. I love French fries, I like a good burger, and I like pie. And that's OK. I would be depressed if I felt I could never eat the things that I love.

"There are some great bakers here. If you like pie, it will be there always - at every meal. So for me, it's about setting up new boundaries. I had some challenges with that, but I'm balancing out."
