Microsoft has taken a jab at Apple over the company's iPhone 4 woes, comparing its troubled release to that of Windows Vista.
The iPhone 4 has a problem wherein the way the phone is held can cause it to drop calls. Apple has acknowledged the fault, and advised users not to hold it in the lower-left corner, which can be difficult for those who are used to holding their phone with their left hand.
"It looks like the iPhone 4 might be their Vista, and I'm okay with that," Microsoft chief operating officer Kevin Turner said in a speech in Washington yesterday.
On release in 2007, Vista was widely panned for its slow performance on older computers and a lack of compatibility out-of-the-box with some hardware. Subsequent patches have seen the operating system vastly improve, but first impressions stuck for many users.
"One of the things I want to make sure you know today is that you're going to be able to use a Windows Phone 7 and not have to worry about how you're holding it to make a phone call," said Turner.
"We're back in the game, and this game is not over."
Apple has resisted bloggers' calls for a full recall.
