Mr Zhakata was the sole occupant of the vehicle

Police have named the man who died in a fatal crash on Auckland’s North Shore this morning.

Shungu Zhakata, 26, was killed when his vehicle struck a pole at the intersection of Kitchener and Shakespeare Roads in Milford, around 2:50 this morning. It appears he was negotiating a long, steep hill and sharp bend as the vehicle approached the intersection at the bottom of East Coast Rd.

Mr Zhakata was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

The Waitemata Serious Crash Unit is investigating the crash.
