It’s day four of the Mini Eco Challenge, where a diesel fuelled mini attempts the journey from Cape Reinga to Bluff on just two tanks of gas. This morning the car left Christchurch for Dunedin but the day was not without incident.
Today the police caught up with the mini. The town was Timaru, the crime? Filming while driving.
Fortunately the local police officer accepted all excuses and an unintended sequel to the film Good Bye Pork Pie was avoided.
The incident was the pair's first run in with the law since leaving Cape Reinga four days ago.
The pair are averaging 3.1 litres per hundred kilometers. That's 91 miles per gallon and they are confident they'll set a new record.
And despite spending so much time together, the pair is still getting along.
Their record-setting exploits have received plenty of attention from locals and local media.
Not only is Campbell Live following the journey but along the way various newspapers have approached the pair to take photos and write articles.
So at the end of day four they are 1800 kilometres down, just 250 to go.
