Cameras captured the moment Miss New Zealand was elbowed aside by Miss Malawi, during the Miss World beauty pageant at the weekend.
Miss World New Zealand organisers will lay a formal complaint to the international body governing the competition, after Susan Mtegha pushed 18-year-old Collette Lochore out of the way on stage.
Both contestants continued smiling as the jostling took place and director of Miss World NZ Desmond Foulger told the New Zealand Herald that the Miss New Zealand was in the right.
“Collette was on her correct spot on stage, but Miss Malawi didn't realise that. Instead of asking her to move over, she just shoved her, elbowed her, and everybody in the audience was aghast,” Mr Foulger said.
"Our girl was fine, she was correct, but Miss Malawi was bad-mannered. I'm going to complain to the Miss World organisation when I get back.
"She was pushed hard, so she nearly fell over. It was a very rude and very unprofessional thing to do."
The event was won by Miss China.
