Police have found a man who went missing yesterday while walking out of the Kirikiri Bay area on the west coast along Muriwai beach, 45km west of Auckland.

The 26-year-old man was found fit and well, police northern communications Inspector Shawn Rutene said today.

Police were informed of the missing man about 8pm last night.

"A 26-year-old man was walking with a companion along the Te Henga walkway after an afternoon of diving.  They had become separated and efforts to locate the missing man failed."

Search and rescue and a Westpac helicopter looked for the man who suffered from bipolar disorder, Mr Rutene said.
