How much is your face worth?

Joe Rauhina is a shearer, and has a taa moko on his face. When a talent scout saw him at an airport and suggested he should do a spot of modelling, Joe thought it would be a great idea.

But the devil is in the detail, and since he signed his face away for $1500, Joe seems to have turned up all over the world.

Meet a man who feels like he's lost the right to his own face.

The model agency should have acted more on Joe's Behalf with regard to the contract, after all thats why they take their cut. They would/should know the ins & outs. Most people would not understand the full range of possibilites of licensing / IP agreements. Depending on what Joe was actually told by the Photographer / Getty he could have a case - but no doubt only the lawyers would win that one

You still have the face, Joe! Take more photos (or get them taken) and sell them yourself. Clearly you are in demand.

I feel for Joe. Taa Moko is not just a form of art but a representation of who and what he is as a person. I would feel down right ripped off and gutted too. To find out that Getty Images exploited and capitalised on Joes' Taa Moko to the tune of an estimated $60,000 is a 'slap in the face' and not to benefit from any of the sums, future or past, is heart breaking. Kia Kaha Joe, I'm onn your side.

Have to say it is one beautiful Taa Moko. Surely however it is the artist that did the tatoo that should be the most upset - Joe Rauhina is just the "canvas" for his/ her art.
