E L James' Fifty Shades of Grey, a word-of-mouth romance smash so erotic it's sometimes labelled "mommy porn”, has broken literary records in the UK after becoming the fastest paperback to reach one million sales.

Fans dashed out to grab the book and add it to their summer reading lists and, as a result, the paperback took just 11 weeks to score a million sales.

The previous record breaker was Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code, which took 36 weeks to get to the sales milestone.
