The family of a man accused by a former policeman of being linked to the disappearance of Mona Blades is determined to clear his name.

Ms Blades vanished while hitchhiking in 1975, from Hamilton to Hastings.

Tony Moller has accused his former friend Derrick Hinton – who died three years ago – of being behind the disappearance.

Information he gathered led to a police probe yesterday of a Kawerau property.

Speaking on RadioLIVE this morning, Mr Hinton’s daughter Pauline Barratt said the allegations are baseless.

“He has said that the body was buried under the floor slab of the laundry – I’ve got photographs of the house under construction, showing that the laundry was already built and the floor slab in place before Mona Blades disappeared.

“The photographs are dated, with the dates in my mother’s handwriting.”

Ms Barratt says Mr Moller’s claims that her father owned a Datsun similar to the vehicle Ms Blades was last seen in are also incorrect, as he owned a Toyota Corolla.
