Prominent New Zealand horse owners Gerard Peterson and Owen Glenn have sold their dual group one winner Monaco Consul to Patinack Farm, which will stand him as a stallion in New South Wales.

Monaco Consul, a $100,000 buy at the 2008 national yearling sales at Karaka, won more than $1.45 million in stakes, the bulk of that coming from his Victoria Derby win last year. He earlier won the group one Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) at Randwick.

The High Chaparral stallion, who was trained by Mike Moroney, ended his racing career when straining a suspensory ligament in last month's Melbourne Cup.

Patinack Farm, headed by multimillionaire Nathan Tinkler, will stand Monaco Consul at its stud at Sandy Hollow in New South Wales. Other sires standing there include Casino Prince, Husson, Murtajill, Raheeb, Wonderful World and Beautiful Crown.

No sale price has been disclosed.

"We are delighted to have acquired a horse of this quality to stand alongside our exciting line-up of stallions," said Tinkler.

"I have watched this horse very closely during his career as he often competed against our very own stable's runners, including two of our group one winners. With the progeny of High Chaparral rekindling Australia's interest in strong middle distance performers, Monaco Consul will find a niche in the growing market of those looking to breed racehorses capable of excelling at a mile and beyond."
