Ken 'Moon Man' Ring says another big earthquake will strike the Canterbury region at the end of September.
Mr Ring – who publishes long-term forecast weather guides based on the orbit of the Moon, and other planetary alignments – also warns against rebuilding Christchurch.
"Cantabrians are being still denied vital information to plan ahead in terms of earthquake expectancy," he wrote on his blog on Friday.
On Saturday, Mr Ring posted a transcript of his chat on a RadioB Sport fishing show that morning. In the interview, Mr Ring said at the present time it's the top half of the North Island that has a higher risk of earthquakes, which "means better coastal fishing because the fish make for the shallower waters in times of increased numbers of undersea eruptions".
"But the end of September is the next date for the next largest earthquake event in Christchurch, in my opinion," said Mr Ring.
On his website, he says there is a "potent" lunar alignment in the last week of September, same as the one that existed at the time of the September 4, 2010 quake.
"Indeed, it may not happen, and we all hope not, but the main players will be in position," he says. "For example we might observe that Dan Carter and Ritchie McCaw are on the field, but that does not guarantee a win."
Mr Ring is also warning authorities to hold off restoring the city's infrastructure because there could be another large quake.
"A premature rebuild of things like parks and trains is like buying a sick person new clothes instead of medication, and expecting that to bring about cure," says Mr Ring.
He also lashed out at the media, whom he called "without moral compass" and "devoid of personal integrity".
A 3 News analysis of Mr Ring's predictions earlier this year failed to show any evidence he was able to accurately predict earthquakes, and even his long-range weather forecasts did no better than chance.
