Ken 'Moon Man' Ring says another big earthquake will strike the Canterbury region at the end of September.

Mr Ring – who publishes long-term forecast weather guides based on the orbit of the Moon, and other planetary alignments – also warns against rebuilding Christchurch.

"Cantabrians are being still denied vital information to plan ahead in terms of earthquake expectancy," he wrote on his blog on Friday.

On Saturday, Mr Ring posted a transcript of his chat on a RadioB Sport fishing show that morning. In the interview, Mr Ring said at the present time it's the top half of the North Island that has a higher risk of earthquakes, which "means better coastal fishing because the fish make for the shallower waters in times of increased numbers of undersea eruptions".

"But the end of September is the next date for the next largest earthquake event in Christchurch, in my opinion," said Mr Ring.

On his website, he says there is a "potent" lunar alignment in the last week of September, same as the one that existed at the time of the September 4, 2010 quake.

"Indeed, it may not happen, and we all hope not, but the main players will be in position," he says. "For example we might observe that Dan Carter and Ritchie McCaw are on the field, but that does not guarantee a win."

Mr Ring is also warning authorities to hold off restoring the city's infrastructure because there could be another large quake.

"A premature rebuild of things like parks and trains is like buying a sick person new clothes instead of medication, and expecting that to bring about cure," says Mr Ring.

He also lashed out at the media, whom he called "without moral compass" and "devoid of personal integrity".

A 3 News analysis of Mr Ring's predictions earlier this year failed to show any evidence he was able to accurately predict earthquakes, and even his long-range weather forecasts did no better than chance.

On his weekly Radio Waatea broadcast on 3 September 2010 he said "you’ll be reading about floods and winds and earthquakes and snow over the next week or so, particularly the South Island".[4] Early the next morning a 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck Christchurch.

That was taken said by Ken ring prior to the christchurch quake. Not exactly an accurate prediction. He covered all possible possiblities except volcano. My 8 year old even said he is full of it

Well: 24th December - a day after a 5.7 and a 6.0 quake very close to Christchurch. Nasty? Yep. Surprising? Not really. That 15% probability might seem low (17:3 against) but significant for all that. And now it has indeed occurred. Did Mr Ring predict it? Not that I've heard recently. Ken Ring is an ignorant charlatan, a mountebank, profiteering from people's fears. Why he isn't prosecuted for fraud, I can't think. The boffins know what they are talking about, by and large, and where their knowledge reaches its limits, they at least are honest and upfront about it. To be sure, one can extrapolate or speculate, but such extensions from the known are useful only insofar you can demonstrate their plausibility. The probability they suggested was their best guess in the light of current theory and likely hypotheses. It seems likely that however great 'our' knowledge of seismic activity becomes, such 'predictions' will always be expressed in terms of probability. And that, of course, leaves open the likelihood that not all predictions will pan out.

why do we even publish his predictions he has been wrong many times and keeps changing his predictions scientists have shown the moon has nothing to do with earthquakes, ken ring should stop upsetting our families with his silly guesses

I am sick of all the bulls..t about predicting earthquakes Ken has not being correct and no one can predict quakes except God. Stop publishing his crap people DO NOT need this rubbish. We here in Christchurch are getting through the worst especally those in the worst hit areas (the eastern suburbs). Get a life and stop listening to gossip any one of us could predict the next quake.

I like to be informed on all fronts so I look at Ken's words as a guide for somethng that is possible to happen about that time. He has been on the mark or almost for many, so I will keep an open mind and am ready here in ChCh. Don't knock it, as it can and has been happening for over a year now, therefore, it can happen again, another biggie. This is new and has never happened in recorded history before, take heed, just be open to opinions.
