The Warriors' NRL pre-season starts in six days’ time, but there's plenty of activity at club headquarters this week.
Additions to the playing ranks and coaching staff will be confirmed in the next few days to usher in the coaching reign of Matt Elliott.
Elliot is getting to know his new players and their families, and is set to welcome new faces to the Warriors’ ranks.
“Obviously [there’s] still some staff that need to be confirmed and there's some players that are imminent as far recruitment goes,” says Elliott. “We're probably not all the way, and I'd prefer everything in place right now, but we'll certainly be ready to kick off on Monday.”
Around four players are likely to join the NRL roster, but don't expect marquee signings.
“There's no big name players amongst it, there's some guys I think people respect as being very, very, very good NRL players and highly talented guys.”
The Warriors are still waiting on Tony Iro to announce if he'll stay as an assistant coach.
“We've made it really clear we want Tony to be a part of this club, Tony wanted a few days to think about that and he's doing that,” says Warriors chief executive Wayne Scurrah.
The players are ready to embrace their third coach in as many seasons.
“If the guy who comes in is a quality coach then I'm probably fortunate that the past one's gone, I’ve got to look at that as a positive,” says hooker Nathan Friend.
Elliott says pre-season training will be tough, but not for the sake of appearances.
“[I’m] certainly not going to flog them as people keep asking me, because that's ridiculous.”
The players will find out how things go in just under a week’s time.
