New Zealanders are to brace themselves for another day of strong winds and heavy rain.
Wind overnight caused trouble in Northland after half a roof came off in what's thought to have been a tornado in Kaiwaka.
Severe westerly gales today from Napier to Canterbury, including Wellington and northwest Nelson, could damage buildings, trees and powerlines and make driving hazardous.
MetService also warns of heavy rain in Fiordland, Westland, Buller and northwest Nelson.
Snowfalls about the Otago Lakes, Southland and Catlins may also cause trouble on the roads.
