Trains on the southern and eastern lines of Auckland's rail network are delayed due to a train breaking down at Te Mahia station in Manurewa.

Auckland Transport tweeted that rail tickets for affected passengers would be accepted by Waka Pacific buses on Great South Rd.

This afternoon's disruption follows the western line being closed earlier today from Morningside to Avondale after a man was hit and killed by a train near the Morningside station.

Emergency services were called to the New North Road overbridge at around 8:15am this morning.

Services were expected to resume on the western line around 11.30am.
