Police say they need more help from the public as they investigate an assault at a Queenstown nightclub which left a local man in a coma.

Jordan Kees Sinke remains in an induced coma in Dunedin Hospital after getting into a fight with another man at the Subculture nightclub on Church Street about 3am on Saturday.

Detective Lisa Watt says police have spoken to a number of witnesses but have others they want to talk to.

"We have received some good information but we are still keen to talk with people who were in the bar around that time," she said.

"This is a serious assault which could potentially have a life-changing impact for Jordan. We are very keen to hear from anyone who has any information that might help us in the inquiry."

Police said it appeared Mr Sinke was standing in the bar near a door leading to the games room when he got into a fight which led to him ending up unconscious on the floor.

He was taken to Lakes District Hospital before being transferred to Invercargill and then on to Dunedin Hospital, where he required surgery.
