A trade union boss is predicting more jobs are set to go in the hotel industry as a five-star establishment in Auckland struggles to stay afloat.
The receivers of the Westin hotel have had to cut the number of rooms they can rent to guests because of a complicated strata room ownership arrangement.
Investors who bought rooms have blocked access to them because of a dispute over rental payments.
Unite Union general secretary Matt McCarten says other top hotels have similar strata-title ownership arrangements, and he fears more trouble is ahead.
Unite officials are to meet with the receiver and Westin staff today.
