Well. There is a town in the South Island - Motueka - where up to now the cops have not worked alone. very shortly thanks to a restructure, these cops will be working alone during the night. Why? To save money so the administration does not have to pay them an on call allowance. Apparently it will serve the community better but it won't. How can it? Some cops there are already talking of leaving. Either Motueka, or even the Police. And these are guys and girls with years and years of experience. So alas what is happening to solo cops elsewhere is going to continue .......

This is a problem that has been around and discussed before. I remember one of the police down Turangi way was attacked. What about the cop in mangakino that died? How many more have to be hurt or killed Peter Marshall? Just because Key and his cronies say no more money in the budget? Is this because Keys has blown his security budget to hell and our police get the grief of having to save the money somewhere? In todays age of violence no police officer should be working alone for safety reasons. We have so many unemployed here why has this govt not used some of its brain power to make use of these willing workers on the unemployed benefits to assist police?
