Hello!. I am a mexican chef. Graeme lied to me in many ways. He "contracted" me to work as the head chef in the restaurant, and he promised me to pay me all my travel expenses from mexico, but he did not pay me... the airplane ticket costed me $2,000 USD!. And i re-designed the menu for "El Centro" and obviously he had to pay me for it, but again, he never pay me... In a few words, he stolen my work. Maybe the people who are reading this, do not believe me, but i have proofs to demonstrate it!. Thanks to God to make justice!.
I had the "privilege" of working at El Centro. When I started, one of the first things I was told was that waitresses were highly encouraged to not wear bras. My hourly wage was never actually confirmed with me, though I did managed to get paid a fair rate for the hours I worked; after I had given my notice and only because Graeme hoped it would help change my mind about leaving. I feel bad for the other staff, especially the front of house staff, as I clearly managed to get out with far fewer horror stories than most others.I'm interested in seeing how everything pans out in the end...
Your show regarding the harrasment within the hospo world has only just scratched the surface. As a female chef the comments and harrasment that is aimed at you is terrible, consequently I no work short contracts and mostly out of NZ. Because of the bullying nature of most Head Chefs......like Ramsay, the arseholes of the hospo world make it a very unpleasant industry to work within. I wish you could see more of it to show NZ just what it is like.
I work in hospitality and have worked in a number of restaurants. I had the misfortune of being demoted while on holiday buy my owner and had the daughter in law of the owner take my position. i called dozens of lawyers from the phone book and got the same answer from them all. "Due to past experiences we wont take on people of that race". i wont mention the race because its not the issue however when i spoke with the department of labor they were incredibly helpful and if it weren't for the fact i found employment else where i would have found great representation through them.
