New Zealand's only Mormon school has closed after 51 years of operation

New Zealand's only Mormon school, Hamilton's Church College, has closed after 51 years of secondary schooling.

The school has not taken in junior students since 2006 when the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints announced the closure, saying the church's resources could be better used elsewhere.

The future of the school, which is a feature of the suburb of Temple View and was well known for its sporting achievements, was unclear, the Waikato Times reported.

Principal Lloyd Keung, who had been at the school since 1971, said staff and students had been mentally and emotionally preparing for the closure.

That is very sad is there nothing that can be done as this school has been an inspiration to all with all their achievements. Especially those who are an inactive member.
