Most Auckland bus services will not run from 11am and 4:30pm on Friday when up to 900 drivers put on the brakes to attend a meeting to decide on a new pay offer.
Mediation was held between NZ Bus and Auckland Tramways and First Union on Monday with the company offering a 6.6 percent pay increase over 27 months.
Unionised drivers will vote on Friday whether to accept the offer.
All North Star, Go West, Metrolink, City Link, Inner Link, Outer Link and Waka Pacific bus services will not run between 11am and 4:30pm, said a statement from NZ Bus, which runs 70 per cent of Auckland bus services.
Services will return to normal from 4:30pm and school bus services will not be affected.
First Union spokesman Karl Anderson earlier told NZ Newswire the unions would not be recommending its members accept the offer.
The drivers had originally sought rises totalling between 7.2 percent and 8.3 percent over two years, and for it to take effect from the end of the present collective.
Drivers might take industrial action if they decide not to accept the company's pay offer, Mr Anderson said.
NZ Bus chief operating officer Shane McMahon told NZ Newswire the union's stance was disappointing.
"Like all businesses we want to see our people earn more money, but that needs to be balanced against the need to remain competitive and ensure job security for all our people," he said.
NZ Bus employs about 1000 bus drivers.
Bus services operated by Ritchies Transport, Howick & Eastern, Birkenhead Transport, Urban Express, Waiheke Buses, Northern Express and Airbus services are not affected.
