Seven days after Indy car driver Dan Wheldon was killed in Las Vegas, motor sport has been rocked by another death.

The Moto GP World Championship is mourning the loss of Italian Marco Simoncelli, who lost control on lap two just four minutes into the Malaysian round in Sepand.

The Honda rider veered straight into the path of Colin Edwards and Valentino Rossi.

The race was cancelled to allow medical staff to devote their attentions to Simoncelli.

Forty-five minutes after the crash the 24-year-old succumbed to chest, head and neck injuries.

If Marco Simoncelli had been running around a rugby field and pulled something we would hear about it for the next week, But he's not a rugby player he was one of the best motorcycle racers in the would and would have been a future would champion had this tragedy had not happened. RIP super sic.

Absolutely appalled at the lack of coverage of this on 3 news. To my knowledge there has been none, he was a great young rider and deserves some recognition!
