Taking the couch to the beach is a noble New Zealand tradition. So is driving everywhere.

Now you can bid for the ability to do both at the same time.

TradeMe seller sellin_stuff is auctioning his motorised couch saying it is time for someone else to enjoy it.

“Just imagine yourself... cruising down the beach beer in hand, mates by your side and sun on your shoulders. Its definitely an experience you won't forget,” he writes on his auction page.

Prospective buyers do not get a free ride though – they are $5 and subject to availability.

The seller lists the following features as being part of the motorized couch.

  • X 5 air horns + compressor –(Dukes of Hazard, La Cucaracha tunes)
  • Push start – Key on for light/radio to power up then push button to start engine.
  • 80AH deep cell battery – Bran new only charged 4 times and never drained past 50% - Can keep stereo and sub going for approx 4 hours.
  • Front head light – low beam 60w
  • X 2 4x4 100w head lights (not wired in)

This is not the first motorised couch to emerge from Aotearoa.

In June 2010, Campbell Live reported on a farmboy who had invented his own couch with an engine.

3news.co.nz has enquired into whether today’s seller is the same person.

The auction closes in six hours and currently stands on $1510.
