This hill was very much within my skill limit, it's a straight line... I'm not just going to crash going straight. I've skated mountain roads in Canada, The French Alps, New Zealand, California, that are much more technical than this. Roads that shoot you into a hairpin corner with a cliff off the side. I know how to control my speed, i know how to stop. Also, highway traffic is consistent, flowing, and i was simply riding the same as a cyclist or motorcyclist would. Also highways and busy roads very rarely have rocks or debris, and even if they did, it would be a small patch of gravel at most, which would not make me fall. Also to those that say i would get hit by a car if i fell, why does a car have to be so close behind me? Why dont you just drive at a normal space behind the vehicle in front? Also my helmet and leathers would prevent any serious injury. Maybe a sprained finger and a light scuff on the knee. This has been blown way out of proportion.

I am sure they all believe they are the best and cannot get hurt as they are so experienced.
Lets not here of accident claims from ACC or any private insurance nor shall we here that it was all the fault of the truck or car driver when one gets killed which will happen someday

The guy with bare feet is one of the founders of the world longboarding scene and has been doing it for many many years. he's crazy as hell sure, but incase you didn't notice, he is wearing gloves on his hands with plastic pucks on them which are used for throwing what longboarders call a 'coleman slide' which when your hand is placed on the road, your board is thrown immediatley perpendicular to the road creating an instant stopping technique. If he chooses to wear no armor that is his own discretion and should not in any way be of any interest to you. These riders are trained professionals and among some of the best in the world. They had all just finished the world race circuit, (www.igsaworldcup.com) where the man filming, Andrew Chapman, had just placed 5th in the world, and 4th at the world championships in Bathurst, Australia earlier that week. Chapman is wearing a full leather and armed motorcycle suit, with leather gloves, and a full face helmet. You cannot say that helmets will do nothing, would you rather that they weren't wearing helmets? This is a high action sport, and in the longboard community we make it very known that you must wear a helmet to provide safety from brain injury. These men are in no way idiots, or stunt men... they are simply among the hundreds of longboarders world wide bombing all there local mountain roads in a safe and controlled manner. He in no way over takes the truck he makes a safe pass as a car would do, and causes no obvious harm or obstrucion on the freeway. You can search youtube and watch endless similar videos, and realise how idiotic you really are for making such a big deal out of this. Here is Chapman's crazy sponsor, as you can see the site is very unproffesional as we are a bunch of hillbillys on surfboards with wheels doing idiotic stuff, NOT. (www.landyachtz.com) This is a world class sport, similar to many other action sports. Why don't you make a news report about skateboarders who don't wear helmets.

Thomas, if there were such "Professionals" as you say they are then why weren't they wearing appropriate safety clothing? Shorts and bare feet and clyclists helmet isn't what you would wear when reaching speeds of up to 100 km/hr
I don't know any motor bike riders who ride around in bare feet!

i am 14 yrs old and i also love to longboard. i dont think they should be chrged because in the video i saw the longboarders kept to the left. being a longboarder myself i no that they couldent of been careless because the boards that they were using arnt designed for movement across the road. they should not be chrged!!!

Guys everyone who is reporting this is ignorant of the sport saying we have no control and a death wish is plain stupid as i am a rider of this sport (not this particular run), we have incredibly control as we can stop from these speeds in a matter of seconds by using a technique called sliding, and we arnt gonna die as soon as we fall off (unless a car does happen to hit us) but thats the same as a cyclist or a motorbie when they come off they can be hit by cars yet does a motorbike rider who travels over the speed limit and be fine make the front page of the news and almost every sinlge news network, no. We are very safe doing this and all of these riders have trained for many years and know their limits as this road is so easy to ride for the fact its a straight line. You guys need to learn about a sport before you go talking about its techniques

Hi Jodeewatts, We do have to run adverts at the beginning of our videos as news is something that needs money to run. We all need to get paid, we have expensive equipment and computers and we need to make a profit as we are a business. This is how free to air television and websites work - as The Times of London is finding out charging people for online content does not work well - the only alternative to funding our site is advertising. Without the content would not be there at all. Apologies that it may not be to your taste but to my mind a short advert is a small price to pay to watch a video of interest. Cheers James Murray - Chief Editor 3news.co.nz. Having said that - would you be prepared to pay for content if it did not have adverts on it?

It is fun, look at the B2 from bombardier longboards, landyachtz, or rayne:

This guy's name is Andrew Chapman, he's a very experienced rider who can easily control his movement and speed. Here's another vid of the same guys skating Bruce Rd:

Do you really have to put adverts at the beginning and end of your videos! Its stops me sharing your content and the same with my friends, we want to see what we have click, not what you want to force on to viewer - I believe the new term for it is call virtual rapiest - not nice I know, but even I can hear from such a term that onliners are tired of advert being forced on us when all we want to do is watch the interesting video you have. Please sort this out, at least only 1 advert per video - are that financially f***ed?
